Anne Krebs, Head of Studies and Research, Research Centre, The Louvre Museum.
The canonical role of museums regarding their social function is shaped as a prevailing view for contemporary cultural policies. This role (and related constraints) will be analyzed in terms of “impacts” and confronted to international academic research and studies conducted by the Louvre Museum. Results deriving from recent research programmes regarding the function of museums in their area will serve as a model to describe the current relationships between museums and their audiences (e.g. social impact and management of cultural programmes in schools, hospitals or prisons).
